Vaultwarden vs Bitwarden

The Quick Breakdown:
  • Vaultwarden: Our secure server in Ontario that stores your data.
  • Bitwarden: The high-quality app you use to access that data.

To keep your data in Canada, you use the Official Bitwarden App but tell it to connect to Digibit instead of the default US cloud.

Step 1 — Download Bitwarden

iOS Android Windows Mac Extension

Step 2 — Configure Server

Important: You must do this before logging in.

iPhone & iPad

  1. Open Bitwarden. Tap the Region/Globe icon at the top-left.
  2. Select "Self-hosted".
  3. Paste our URL in the Server URL box:
    https://vault.digibit.ca
  4. Tap Save and log in with your Digibit credentials.

Android

  1. Open Bitwarden. Tap the Gear Icon (⚙️) on the login screen.
  2. Enter the URL in the Server URL field:
    https://vault.digibit.ca
  3. Tap Save and log in.

Windows & Mac App

  1. Open the Desktop app. Go to Settings (or click the 'Logging in on' dropdown).
  2. Choose Self-hosted.
  3. Enter: https://vault.digibit.ca
  4. Click Save.

Browser Extension

  1. Click the Bitwarden extension icon.
  2. On the login screen, click the Settings (Gear) or Region dropdown.
  3. Set Server URL to: https://vault.digibit.ca
  4. Save and Log In.

Step 3 — Enable Autofill

Make sure Bitwarden can fill your passwords automatically so you never have to type them.

iOS: Settings > Passwords > Password Options > Allow Bitwarden.

Android: Settings > Languages & Input > Autofill Service > Bitwarden.
